Petty Theft

Anytime property of another is taken without the owner's consent, a Petty Theft charge may be filed by the prosecutor. If the value of the goods is over a certain statutory limit, the more aggravated offense of Grand Theft would apply.

Penalties if convicted for this offense vary from court to court and are governed by the Penal Codes Sentencing Guidlines. Additionally, restitution or paying back the victim is also generally ordered by the court.
